Ann Curry
Ann Curry is an American photographer and journalist who has worked as a journalist for more than 45 years focusing on the human suffering in conflict zones as well as natural disasters. Curry has written about the conflicts in Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo and the Central African Republic. Ann Curry is a journalist, television anchorperson and reporter who was born in 1956. Her most famous role was on Today, a National Broadcasting Co. morning newscast. Curry was well-known for her reporting on human rights crises, natural disasters and other emergencies which occurred in war-ravaged areas. Curry's Japanese-American mother and U.S. navy-marine father played prominent roles in Curry's life. In the aftermath of World War II, her parents began to meet during her father's service in Japan. Because of her father's military service her family has moved quite a bit. Curry went to high school in the city of Ashland, Oregon. She graduated in 1978 from her school at the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. When she was a young woman she had the privilege of being exposed to various different cultures. Her empathetic attitude towards the world is likely the result of these experiences. Curry did not have the opportunity to attend one school in Alameda, San Diego Oregon or Virginia for two years because her family relocated frequently. Ashland in Oregon is the place where Curry graduated. While working as an intern for KTVL Channel 10 Medford, Oregon she began her career in broadcasting. She was the first female journalist at the station, when she was just 22. After that, she moved into the role of anchor and reporter for KGW which is an NBC affiliate station located in Portland. In the course of four years, she was hired as an anchor by KCBS TV in Los Angeles. The two Emmy Awards were won during her six year association with the KCBS-TV.
